The Royal George Staithes

Pretty average pub, not a great atmosphere. We thought we had booked an en-suite, but no, we had to cross the hall to our bathroom and had the smallest wardrobe in the world so avoid Room 2. The service wasn’t great, it seemed as though they were going through the motions really. Although I think the locals were received a little better than us so maybe they are just sick of tourists 🫣 Food was ok, although my husband loved his fish and chips. Staithes is pretty, but I wish we had just stopped for an hour or so rather than staying overnight. Won’t be back.

What a wonderful little pub/ hotel in the heart of beautiful staithes. We arrived early afternoon to a lovely sunny day and were able to sit out at the sitting area at the front of the pub and have a nice cool beer before unpacking and exploring staithes and it’s lovely harbour. Our room was great over looking the cobbled streets of staithes with everything you could need for a two night stay. Including tea and coffee making facilities , bottles water and chocolates..We stayed for bed and breakfast and the breakfasts were huge and so good. We ate at the pub on both nights and I would highly recommend I had the fish and chips and the lasagna and my husband had surf and turf and steak pie all of which were delicious . The staff were friendly and efficient and ensured all our needs were met . Staithes is so pretty and peaceful and within a short drive to Whitby. We had arranged private parking at the top of the steep hill ( Glen vale) it was so well organised and perfectly placed right at the top of the hill. £20 for the 2 nights stay which was so worth the money as you could go out for the day and return to your allotted space as many times as you needed . I would highly recommend staying at the Royal George and will definitely be returning

We ate here twice during our visit to Staithes. The staff could not have been friendlier. Even in November this place was busy. The fish and chips was the best fish and chips I've had this year. And the beer was excellent. Walked past with the dogs every morning and they were always cleaning at 7.30. Definitely returning.

As we were walking the Cleveland Way the venue had agreed to take delivery and pass on our bags from the baggage transfer company. We arrived early feeling very weary and needed a cool drink, the young lady at check said just to let us know when we were ready and then took us to our room. The room was very smartly decorated and spacious and included free drinking water bottles. Great location in the centre of the village, the food was also exceptional quality and good value.

Went for a drink but staff were very unsociable and the atmosphere was very hostile. We felt very uncomfortable. We went on a Saturday night and this pub was not full. Would not recommend visiting this establishment.

Absolutely amazing food. The amount of meat in the pie was crazy! And the chips were to die for. Very obliging staff who accommodated special food request. And the bonus was the prices were reasonable too.
