YHA Stratford-Upon-Avon

Positives Shared bathroom and shower were very clean Social spaces (games room, kitchen, lounge) were very nice Handsoap provided in the bedroom with sink Some food was nice (eg. Breakfast but the lunch was insufficient) Negatives Our room had a moth problem as many entered the window and went towards the beds that we had to kill. Room was very hot so we couldn't shut the window and stop the moths Room was very dark without natural lighting, there was a hole in the ceiling where a light should have been, couldn't see anything Many dents in walls Gum was stuck to reading light/plug next to the bed Stained sheets/bedding Weird smells in the stair area Lock on bedroom door was very difficult to use so took a long time to open and close door and wasn't secure. One of the shared toilets did not flush Bunk bed ladders poor Ps. Bring second pillow if that is your preference as only one is provided on your bed

Plenty of free parking. Lovely grounds. Space for the kids to run around. They enjoyed playing on the giant outdoor xylophone and building a den in the walk-in bushes. The room was the standard YHA room that you'd expect. Not massively spacious but adequate for our needs. We had an en suite. We ate in the restaurant for our evening meal and breakfast. Food was nice and worked out very reasonably priced with the kids (under 10s) eat free deal. The kids enjoyed playing in the games room and a treat from the vending machine! All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We commented on how cheerful everyone was. Had a lovely stay.

Lovely hostel in a great area. Very quiet area at night. Facilities were fine, I stayed in a shared room, the room was clean, comfortable beds, clean washrooms. The building is a lovely Georgian mansion with good grounds too :) Would definitely stay here again! I had only one issue- there were not enough lockers in the dorm for all travellers. I managed to get one for myself but there were only 3 for 6 travellers. I know not everyone needs or wants a locker but it would have given me better peace of mind to know I would certainly have a locker upon arrival. It would have been better if there were enough in the room for that number of beds. Also (not YHA's fault but worth knowing before you stay!), the last bus from Stratford-on-Avon town to the YHA is at 21:30 so if you visit the theatre for an evening performance, an Uber or taxi is needed unless you want to walk the couple miles in the dark which did not seem appealing along the B road. Knowing this in advance, the trip was fine and it is in a lovely location in the countryside! Thanks YHA

On entering the room it was evident it hadn’t been hoovered let alone surfaces dusted or cleaned or cob webs removed from window….or hot drink stained ledge above bed cleaned .I immediately returned to reception to report this…the girl on reception didn’t look happy to grant my request to clean it….but she did…when I said cleanliness was very important to my physical health…on return bathroom was still dusty but I let it slide…I then went and ordered dinner … advertised as chicken ham leek pie….all I could hear was microwave and oven doors getting slammed…so wasn’t hopeful….I’d driven far,when it arrived the pastry was very thin and risen high to give the effect of value for money ….the filling was a hot runny gloopy sauce…1 newborn babies finger nail size of a thin slither of chicken and grated minute shavings of ham like pink pepper specks…I was still that hungry I ordered a portion of fries that was less than a fist full …in a very small tin Ashet dish…I commented in the morning whilst awaiting breakfast I also paid for and the female chef was embarrassed and said she knew and felt the same before she served me it… the lady that cleaned the room warmed&let me borrow a charger&cable for my mobile which was lovely…the guy I presume was the manager made it obvious he wasn’t keen on engaging…I got the impression they where all happy sat behind the reception desk chatting amongst themselves.him and the chef where happy to look at the map & tell me 2 more yha’s to stay at

First it was tricky to find the reception as the parking at the back and there is a walk to the front. Probably some small arrow signs helps. Everything was clean. Quiet at night. Just all good for a transit trip.

A feel of being on a retreat to another time. Plenty of space to ponder and a good selection of books to pick off the shelves. A grand historic home in grounds with a miniature woodland. Handy for a trip to the butterfly farm and to see a Shakespeare play.

This YHA is fantastic. It is a mansion set in the countryside on the edge of Statford-upon-avon. The room was superb, very clean and with beautiful views over the front of the building looking out into the countryside. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was very good. I had an evening meal, with a pudding and breakfast as well, in a very clean restaurant where the staff waited on for the evening meal. The price was very cheap for what I got. I had a private room with breakfast for £35ish. I would like to thank you for a memorable stay and certainly recommend to anyone. Many thanks. Best wishes Rob

It is a beautiful, spacious building, with a good restaurant, and lovely lounges. Parking, with welcoming staff. Our room was ensuite, modern, and a large room. Yes, some aspects of the building was dated, but the cost for 3 including breakfast was 72 pounds. So great value for a family holiday.
