Where do I start:  Check in was smooth, nice gentleman checked us in. Room was large and sea view, bathroom sink was disgusting, no bath/shower mat, dust in extractor fan, shower cubicle was small, just as well we are not large people. Bed was very uncomfortable. Shatter cushions were stained and very dirty, Small fan provided however the only sockets useable were over the far side of the room! No teaspoons in the room. No water provided, ice machine in the corridor but no bucket to put the ice in! Curtains were dirty as was the dressing table stool. No smart tv, just a fee freeview channels. At 4pm we went to the bar for food, to be told there was no chef! Even though it states food available. Breakfast was ok, had to wait 15 minutes to be seated as no one around. Coffee was lukewarm, not idea first thing in the morning. For the price this hotel is not worth it. It needs more staff and cleaning needs to be improved dramatically. Do not waste your money, I'm sure there are better hotels. We wont be staying again.

This was an extra night's booking because of my flight charges,, great location and breakfast, good size rooms, hotel little dated and could do with a good clean, third floor room and the lift broke down, not easy to man handle your bags down the stairs 🤕

Close to sea, lovely big room with sofa and free parking. Excellent bathroom with separate shower and full size bath. Lots of storage space. Quick run by car into city centre and buses stop outside plus I believe the metro is nearby. Would definitely recommend this hotel and I will stay again for sure.

*Absolutely horrendous* stay at THE GRAND HOTEL SUNDERLAND Booked a nights stay at a alleged ELITE hotel for new years as a treat for myself & my fiancé, however the only thing that was ELITE was their terrible customer service & unprofessionalism! That was truly a cut above! Waited around in the lobby for 45 minutes after check in, to be finally greeted by a very miserable, lazy, sarcastic & unwelcoming woman at reception which never wore a name badge & refused to try and help in any way. After waiting so long in reception and finding out by a last minute freshly printed out leaflet sellotaped to the desk, that the spa was unavailable for January the 1, which was the night we were at the hotel, and the main reason for the booking! I politely asked if we could cancel the booking as the facilities promised when booked were not available and we had been wasting all daylight waiting to be checked in, leaving us no time to stroll around the beach. So our stay has already been ruined by no fault of our own! I requested the cancellation on site & via the app with which i booked the room, i was told a decision would be made by 4pm, so we waited. Then when 4pm arrived we were told 5:30pm then when 5:30 arrived we were cut off, so we had to walk all the way back to the hotel just to speak to someone without getting ignored & we were told we would have to wait until the morning when the manager was in. By this time it was after 6pm & we had no other option but to stay the night as there was no promise of a refund & all other hotels were fully booked. So we stayed, and i asked to speak to the manager......then i was told the manager isn't in today ?!??! So i was 'greeted' or barked at by the 'deputy manager' who literally looked like a homeless woman with drink issues or something as she was very rude and aggressive and shouted at me that they haven't done anything wrong and that everything was our fault! REAAAAAAAALLYY CLASSY? TOP CUSTOMER SERVICE On top of that the restaurant closed 90 minutes earlier than advertised, so we couldn't even get a meal by the time we decided what to do ALL IN ALL 0 OUT OF 10

Upon arrival I was greeted by another customer having to complain, they would not be accountable for his booking being wrong and one room short, they said contact the 3rd party they always muxk up, we can’t help. I was a little shocked at the manner of the 2 staff. I had no hello, can I help just a stare, so I asked to check in, I found them to be stressed and rude. The room was dirty, dated. We decided to leave and did not stay,

It used to be good. We have been going there for years..but definitely gone downhill.. tattly decoration..dirty in places.. couldn't care less untrained staff..won't go again..

Stayed with my daughter for a Mother’s Day treat  🌷 we were greeted by a very pleasant young man on reception who was so helpful, we had a great room with a lovely view,, we can’t wait to return 👍

The hotel is right on the sea front with great views of the beach. The service was excellent with a good and varied breakfast from yogurt, fruit, cereal, to a full English. The room we had was on the front on the second floor so got a good view. Will definitely return.

We have been here many times great location we had a room with sea view , the weather was horrendous which made the view of the waves even more spectacular which we enjoyed viewing over again. We didn't use the Gym, sauna, swim but we will in the future. Plenty bars restaurants around the area.Great price on a short notice little break would recommend 💯 % .

I stayed two nights without any issues . I think they actually upgraded my room because it was much larger than expected . WiFi worked great , room was clean , staff friendly , quick check in/out . There's swimming facilities but I didn't use it. The hotel is right on the beach which would be nice in spring /summer .Pubs , restaurants ,supermarket in walking distance. Pub served meals and snacks and had arranged times for breakfast,dinner, room service etc . I'd recommend for a short stay

last minute booking for 1 night online and surprised for the cleanliness room and hotel facilities. and its so close to the seaside. our first visit to Sunderland and love it so much, quiet, peaceful.

The hotel's location is fantastic, looking over the beach and being near loads of activities. The room was very clean, and the hotel itself was very impressive. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only fault was that my room was very cold, even with the radiators on, suspect because the radiators themselves were small for the admittedly very big room that you get. Overall, though, I was very impressed and would happily stay again.

Was disappointed as had not much sleep 2nd night..they had wedding on and my room was right above front entrance...people outside front drinking smoking very loud till about 3.30 in morning...I have stayed there few times ...I think they need to put people not in wedding group on opposite side of hotel so don't get woken up all night...some people haven't got any consideration for others ...

Lovely stay, with very friendly staff. Would stay again and recommend to others.
