Hotel California by Aycon

The highlight of this small hotel is the beautiful views of Sveti Stafan. It’s definitely worthwhile to pay a bit more for a room with a balcony overlooking the sea. The beach access and loungers are great. Breakfast is also excellent and changes a bit every day - although they really need to get a faster (or second) coffee machine to eliminate the queues for coffee every morning. Although the sea view balconies are great, they could easily provide more comfortable plastic chairs. If you have your own car, the hotel staff do a good job of squeezing your car into the limited parking area. But, in general, I would not recommend driving in Montenegro. The coastal road is very congested in the summer and finding parking spaces almost anywhere is a big challenge. And just getting up and down the narrow road leading to the hotel can be very stressful and unpleasant.

Wonderful hotel, the sea view rooms are a must. The food was good but expensive and the breakfast buffet huge. The beach was lovely and the sea very warm although it is a bit stoney as your trying to get in and out. Lots of sunbeds and a beach bar. Lots of restaurants walkable but it's hilly so if your mobility isn't good you will need taxis which the hotel easily organises

On arrival we were met with miserable, rude staff in both the reception and the bar. First day of sunshine we were told the beach was closed, all the other beaches around were open. We complained and after arguments amongst the staff it opened. Not sure the beach towels were ever washed they were chucked into a wooden hut each night, my friends actually caught a member of staff sniffing them. One evening the whole hotel was closed for a private party, guests were not informed, restaurant, bar and outside seating closed to guests. Breakfast was nice although basic with no changes in 10 days! Breakfast staff were much friendlier. Rooms were nice and cleaned daily. We did complain to our Jet2 rep who told us lots of guests had made complaints and she thinks the hotel will be downgraded in 2025.

Arrived here around 12:30 and they allowed us to check in early to our sea view room early. It would be nice if they had an attendant up on the road to assist you when we arrived as it was a weekend and the road was quite congested. Not knowing where to go or what to do I had my wife jumped out of the car and ran down to the check in counter and grabbed one of the guys who took our keys and parked it for us and brought our luggage down. The sea view room and bathroom are quite large and nicely appointed. We loved having the patio to sit on. Breakfast in the morning was very good. They had a nice selections of meats/cheeses, fruits, pastries/bread and hot items like eggs as well. I did feel like you spent a large amount of time at breakfast waiting to use the one coffee machine they had. We did eat dinner one night here as there was a torrential rainstorm and we did not want to walk anywhere. We had low expectations based on other reviews and quite honestly the food was terrible. Our pasta and risotto were way too creamy and salty. I barely touched the pasta. Thankfully they took it off our bill. The beach is ok and nice to have access to free chairs. They use the beach club/restaurant next door for their beach service. The next morning after the storm the beach was covered in seaweed, rocks and debris. The attendant told us it was closed for the day (it did open around noon), so we walked to the apartments next door they allowed us to rent chairs for 10 euros. It was great. Their chairs were way more comfortable and they had a nice little beach bar that was cheaper than the hotel and the people there were super friendly. As a bonus they used Amadeus, where we had eaten earlier in the week, as their food provider and it was really good. It did seem that most of the employees spoke little to no English. This is fine but it made interactions difficult. Also, with the exception of the older gentleman in the restaurant who was extremely gracious, none of the employees were super friendly. The rooms and the views were great. Just overall based on the food and lack of friendliness I found it hard to give the place 5 stars.
