Best Western University Inn at Valparaiso

There was a drunk guy in the front door, I was confused why they allowed a random person hanging out there, but I realized he is the boyfriend of the front desk girl.

The facility looked to be well-maintained. Interaction with the staff was very professional and everyone acknowledged me even as I was walking by. I’m figuring that all the windows on my side of the building did not have room darkening curtains. I was in room #310. Darkened curtains would be nice. Need to add some different selections of food such as biscuits and sausage gravy. What was there was tasty.

The shower soap dish was broken bad had several sharp edges. Anybody brushing up against it or falling against it would have suffered severe injury.

The toiletries are small and limited, the room was clean, but our tub filled up during shower. The staff were great and caring. Breakfast was also much better than expected. The front doors were broken and kept opening/closing randomly. The fire alarm went off and we exited it was smoke in the kitchen. However, it left the elevators unusable for several hours. We had guests that could not climb stairs very well. I do not believe it’s a staff issue more a facility in need up several upgrades.

When I checked into my room I was getting ready to take a shower and noticed that I had forgotten my shampoo/conditioner. There were 2 complimentary shampoo bottles in the bath but no conditioner. I called the front desk and asked if they had any and the front desk attendant brought 2 bottles of conditioner right up to my room! Great service!!!

We had to change rooms because the TV didn't work. I'm the new room, the overhead light in the bathroom didn't work. Doors were extremely loud when closing in the hall.

It takes a lot for me to leave a negative review, but I was very disappointed with this stay. My first interaction at the front desk was not welcoming, and I was given inaccurate information that made check-in more difficult than it should have been. Although other staff members were polite, the initial experience created a poor first impression. The room also did not meet basic cleanliness expectations. I took photos of the issues and shared them with staff, and I was surprised that management was not involved. I was never offered the chance to speak with a manager, despite the concerns I raised. Overall, the stay did not meet expectations for cleanliness, communication, or customer service.

Towels in hallway alll night and the next day. Better directions for turning into parking lot. Would be better to say turn by Applebees instead of Martin Bender Jewelry because Applebees sign is bigger. We missed the sign.

I don't know that I will stay here again but this has nothing to do with the staff. While we were sleeping sometime after midnight, loud music playing right outside of our room woke us up, along with cigarette smell. A men was standing right outside blasting music on his phone and smoking. We asked him if he can stop his music, which he denied he was playing. We closed the door and try calling the front desk but the phone in the room was not working so we called from our cell phone. The woman in the front desk I believe went outside and told him to stop playing his music, however this ruined our sleep and we were not able to sleep in peace for the rest of the night.
