Staying at Bairro do Casal was one of the most unique and delightful vacation experiences we have ever had. Although we knew we were getting a “cottage” for a night, we had no idea how very special it was. We stayed in Aida, which we learned was named after the person who had lived there as were each of the cottages. We are so impressed with immense efforts that have gone into lovingly preserving and rebuilding these houses. With full stone walls, beautiful wood windows and trim (just fun your fingers across it), innumerable thoughtful finishes and details like sachet in drawers, a towel warmer in the bathroom, fireplace and firewood ( for the pleasure of having a fire, not necessary for heat), a compact but fine kitchenette stocked with cooking and eating utensils, coffee and tea and a clever fold out “kitchen” table. That’s just inside. The view is gorgeous, full stop. And Anabela was so considerate and thoughtful and made us feel so welcome, it absolutely warmed our hearts.
