Girraween Environmental Lodge

We’ve had a magical weekend in Girraween, soaking up the peaceful atmosphere, and listening to the chorus of cicadas and frogs from the pond. We also had a magnificent display of a tropical storm - it was like a light show! The whole sky was lit up from all directions.

This retreat has clearly seen better days and is in dire need of a re-fresh. The carpet tiles from the 70ies and the grandma furniture add to the gloom of the dark huts and so our stay didn’t feel luxurious at all. It was also unclear to us what is meant by “environmental”. Certainly not the introduced deer, goats and Guinea Fowl, some of whom roam freely across the property. The huts are badly insulated, so the fireplace is much needed on a cold night. Also strangely, we had troubles booking for the length we wanted, but when we got there there was only one other party and the other 13 huts were empty. We tried to go for a few walks on the property, but they are badly signposted and overgrown. Not to mention the random rubbish like pipes and abandoned vehicles along the way. On the plus side, it is very quiet and there were roos aplenty on the lawn.

Why hadn't we stayed here before! Thankyou so much for your hospitality. The time we spent with you was just what we needed. The lodge was spotlessly clean and everything we needed was provided. The tranquillity, peace and quiet allowed us to rejuvenate and relax in wonderful surroundings. We plan to return again for longer. Many thanks Dean and Kylie

Benga and Paul were so welcoming and attentive and their love of the place shone through. I took my extended family to Giraween Lodge for my dads 80th and the cabins were very comfortable, with everything considered - fire was ready for us to light on arrival, all the things we needed such as salt and pepper, coffee machine, blankets, heater, torches etc. and walking distance to the national park! No mobile reception (except at reception) was such a blessing - no anxiety about having to reply to texts and just switched off and enjoyed being in the present with my family. Baby goats were born just before our arrival (so cute) and wallabies and variety of birds all over the property, plus Dawn the deer who follows you around 😄. Will be coming back for sure

Beautiful location family friendly, owners very hospitable and friendly. Rooms were beautiful and clean it was lovely to sit by a fireplace when it was cold outside. The whole family enjoyed our weekend getaway and especially enjoyed the beautiful walks on the property and the earlier morning deer feeding was a special highlight. Would definitely visit again next year.

Had a fabulous time, as a weekend get away from Brisbane during the winter. Very helpful and lovely accommodation in beautiful surroundings. Strongly recommend, and hopefully will be back. Catherine and Maher
