No trains between Lewes and Haywards Heath due to train derailment

    Период:четверг, 13 августа 2026 г. — понедельник, 17 августа 2026 г.
    Перевозчики:Southern
Сопутствующая информация:On Thursday afternoon, August 13, a train derailed in the Lewes area. As a result, all lines between Lewes and Haywards Heath are closed. Trains are unable to run between Lewes and Haywards Heath and will be canceled. Disruption is expected until further notice. Customer advice: Your journey is likely to take a little longer than usual today as trains are unable to run between Lewes and Haywards Heath. To help customers continue their journeys, rail replacement buses will be running between Haywards Heath and Lewes, calling at: - Cooksbridge - Plumpton This means fewer travel options than normal for some customers. To help keep people moving, Southern have also added extra carriages to services between Brighton and Hastings and Brighton and Seaford wherever possible, providing more space on board for customers traveling along the route. If you're traveling towards Eastbourne or Hastings, you'll need to change trains at Brighton to continue your journey. If you're traveling today, please allow at least 60 minutes of additional journey time and check your journey before setting off for the latest travel information. If you are planning to travel this weekend: Cooksbridge and Plumpton will not be served all weekend, and rail replacement buses will continue to operate between Lewes and Haywards Heath. Train services that would normally run between London Victoria and Eastbourne will be canceled. To travel between these stations, you can use alternative Southern services between Polegate and Brighton and alternative Southern or Thameslink services between Brighton and London. Rail replacement buses will be running between Polegate and Eastbourne. This is due to a landslip in the Polegate area, which is preventing trains from running to Eastbourne. There are also rail replacement buses running between Lewes and Haywards Heath to serve Cooksbridge and Plumpton, but these will have extremely limited capacity, so unless you are traveling to one of those stations, please use train services via Brighton. Eastbourne Airshow: If you are traveling to or from the Eastbourne Airshow, we advise that you travel via Brighton, where we have plenty of services between Brighton and Polegate. We have also added extra carriages to services on the route where possible, providing more capacity on board for customers. Unfortunately, there is a landslip in the Polegate area which is preventing trains from running to Eastbourne. There are, however, rail replacement buses between Polegate and Eastbourne. You can use these to complete your journey. If you are planning to travel from Monday, August 17: We know many customers will be concerned about traveling next week, and Southern are sorry for the disruption and uncertainty this is causing. Please make sure to check back on Sunday evening for information about next week's service. Can I use my ticket with another operator? You can travel on the following services at no additional cost: - Southern services between Brighton and London Victoria - Thameslink services between Brighton and London Bridge - Gatwick Express services between Brighton and London Victoria - London Underground between all London terminals - Southeastern services between Hastings and London terminals Planning your journey: You can use live departure boards, a live map of the network, and the alternative route guide to help you. If you're traveling in the London area, you can plan journeys on alternative routes by using the TfL Journey Planner. The Southern app will also help you plan your journey. Can you tell me more about the incident? Following the incident on Thursday, August 13, the railway between Lewes and Haywards Heath remains closed until further notice while investigations, detailed assessments, and repairs are carried out. Southern are continuing to work closely with their Network Rail partners, whose engineers and specialist teams are assessing the damage and identifying the work needed before trains can safely run again. Southern know this is causing significant disruption and uncertainty for customers, and they are very sorry for the impact on your journey and your plans. Until the investigations, assessments, and repairs are complete, some services will be canceled or changed, and journeys may take longer than usual. Replacement transport is being provided where possible to help you continue your journey. Please check your journey before traveling and allow extra time. Thank you for your patience and understanding while this important work is carried out safely. Southern will provide further updates as more information becomes available. Check before you travel: The National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner does not reflect these changes. Please check back later. For helpful advice if you need to travel on a rail replacement service, including accessibility and bicycle information, please use our Rail Replacement Services page. You can find the pick-up and drop-off location of rail replacement services by checking station signage or by searching for your station on our Find a Station page. Please be advised that replacement vehicles may be busier than usual, and you should allow extra time for your journey. Compensation: You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.
