If you venture to Dunkeld, the Atholl Arms and Z’s Bistro is the place to stay and eat. Tip: order the local Perthshire Steak Pie, yum. Before dinner make sure to have a beverage across the street at the Atholl Garden Terrace. Beautiful setting on the banks of the river Tay. The wait staff was absolutely wonderful. David welcomed us by showing us around and made our dinner reservations. Alyx working the Garden was so welcoming making our afternoon a fun experience. She loves Boston, so we became Thundah Buddies! Dillon and Martine were an attentive team making our dinner great. And Yvonne took care of us during breakfast, she was wonderful. She recommended the Birnam Wood (short walk from hotel), Beatrix Potter Gardens (short drive from hotel) and Iain Burnett Highland Chocolatier factory (15-20 minute drive) local gems we would have missed. Note if a 20 minute drive is too far luckily Iain Burnett has a shop in Dunkeld.

We enjoyed a wonderful overnight stay at the Atholl Arms for a mini-break. First class from arriving to departure. Gorgeous room - well equipped, very comfortable, spotlessly clean, spacious, airy and lovely view. Really impressive. Staff friendly & helpful. Fantastic breakfast - made to order and great quality. Highly recommend the Atholl Arms. Looking forward to visiting again sometime!!

We had a one night stay here following our Land Rover Experience earlier in the day and were very impressed by this hotel. We stayed in a junior suite, room number 5, which overlooked the main road but was very quiet. The room has a four poster bed, with good quality linen and pillows, a bath in the middle of the room and a separate seating area. The adjacent bathroom has double wash hand basins and a large walk in shower. Quality toiletries (Arran Aromatics) are supplied along with a nespresso coffee machine and bottled water. Dinner was excellent, served in a very busy restaurant by cheery, good natured staff. Breakfast was also excellent with plenty of everything. This hotel is one of the very nicest we have stayed in! Highly recommended

What was a long-awaited break turned out to be somewhat spoiled by our choice of hotel in Dunkeld. We assumed that a 4 star hotel would provide the basics such as hot water and double glazing. Neither of those were present. On arrival we were told that the room we had booked was being refurbished but we were being upgraded to a junior suite. The suite was spacious and clean featuring a large bath in the middle of the room. It was situated on the first floor and facing the main road through the town. What was immediately apparent was the noise of lorries rumbling past and rattling the windows but we assumed it would be quiet by bedtime. The en suite was spacious and reasonably attractive with double sinks and a large walk-in shower. Unfortunately, after running the hot tap for over 5 minutes the water was at best, tepid. On checking that the electric shower was usable we discovered that it simply was not. An endless wait for the water to become luke-warm meant that the flow had diminished to a trickle. Goodness knows how on earth the huge freestanding bath in the bedroom could ever be filled. Needless to say, we reported this to the management and after two sets of staff attempted to resolve the issue we were left to our own devices. Dinner of 'home made pizza' and 'venison sausages' were at best, average and served in the Bistro instead of the Riverview dining room. Breakfast next morning was served in the pub. The food was not of a quality that the hotel website claimed and definitely not 'award winning'. To be fair, the staff were pleasant and did respond to our requests for assistance but the issue is that they have to deal with a building with antiquated plumbing but a 4 star hotel should be of a standard that meant I didn't have to wait until I got home to have a much-needed shower.

Booked for overnight only from checkin to checkout service was 1st class. Staff really very helpful. Food was excellent had the DBB deal and have absolutely no complaints. Evening meal was lovely lots to pick from and the breakfast was perfect. Will definitely return.

This was a one night stay as we were attending a whisky tasting in Dunkeld, we booked on. DBB basis and were not disappointed, the room was superb beautifully decorated and although on the second floor easy to access. Our meal in the evening was superb, I had local venison casserole and it was outstanding if anything too large a portion. The following mornings breakfast was an equal to the meal, smoked North Sea haddock with a poached egg and none of you died haddock here, my wife had Dunkeld smoked Salomon with scrambled eggs, again superb. The hotel has an outside area on the banks of the river Tay where you can enjoy a drink or bite to eat, inside the hotel is an eclectic mix of decor and furnishings all done to a very high standard. Highly recommend.

We normally pop from Dundee to Dunkeld for a midweek break. The Atholl Arms is a great place to chill. Just back from a Tuesday to Friday break using the hotels Stay,wine,dine offer. We were upgraded to room 17 ( master suite), and what a fabulous room to chill in. The weather was fantastic, and we spent our days walking along the river bank and popping to Kenmore,Pitlochry, and Grandtully. The hotel staff were superb and so friendly. The breakfast was amazing, as was the evening meal in Zs Bistro. The beer garden was opening the weekend we left, and that is a great place to sit in the sun. We will be back in October for another chillaxing time. This hotel is highly recommended.

Our stay was perfect. The room was beautifully decorated, and immaculate. (Room 18) The bed and pillows were so comfortable! The team were extremely friendly. The breakfasts were delicious and the location is fantastic. In the past, during the warmer months, I've had lunch here before, outside by the river, which has always been great. The stay was exceptional. Thank you all!

Z’s has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, helped by the log fire on a cold January night. Staff were friendly and helpful. A wide choice of menu and wines. The breaded fish and Thai Curry were delicious. So pleased, we’re going back for more tonight.

Very comfortable stay. Great views from our lovely river view room with a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was excellent with a very good selection and perfectly cooked eggs. The staff were welcoming and accommodating. We would definitely stay again.

Simply great. A quirky hotel with beautifully decorated rooms and great food. The breakfasts were excellent and the evening meals in the bistro were first class. Relaxing with drinks in the hotel was a great unwinding experience and we left after 3 nights completely relaxed. Dunkeld is a smashing wee town to visit and the Atholl Arms is a great and central location for exploring the area to places like House of Bruar, Pitlochry and Blairgowrie. Lastly and most importantly are the staff, who are just great. Nothing is too much trouble and their friendly attitude towards guests is second to none. We will return soon and thank you for making our stay such a wonderful experience.

Excellent visit from start to finish. Room 11 was immaculate and spacious. Bed was comfortable enough. Breakfast was freshly cooked and sufficient choice in a lovely setting. We ate in the restaurant at night and food was excellent too. Staff were welcoming. Special mention to the Spanish gentleman who worked in the restaurant. He was very welcoming, accommodating and engaging with us. Back in January for a couple of nights.

Genuinely couldn't fault anything. Central location in Dunkeld, comfortable room, staff very attentive, food was amazing. We had booked in another hotel but ended up moving after we'd had tea at the bistro within the Atholl. Couldn't fault it at all and we'll be back next year hopefully.

First of all, the place and food was lovely, HOWEVER a lovely member of staff helped us to get a table as it was fully booked. There was a reserved table but wasn't due to be sat for another few hours, we assured her, we'd be gone within the hour and was grateful. We noticed another member of staff didn't seem to happy about what she had done and was literally screaming in her face, it was awful to watch, so god only knows how that poor girl felt. We felt awful putting her in that position and said sorry to her. Not sure what happened to the lovely lady after the abuse she received. She was so friendly and professional with us, didn't catch her name but she had long red hair. I did call to complain but heard nothing back. Wanted to check she was ok as she had done us the favour and we were grateful, but we would of walked away if we'd known she would of been treated like that. I'm not sure if anyone else witnessed this but it was disgusting. I am looking to go in when back in the area to make a formal complaint. I certainly want it noting how he spoke to his colleague.
