Sky House Kangaroo Island

We have just begun a 3 night stay in Sky House and absolutely love it here. What an absolutely stunning location, even better than the photos. High spec bathroom, comfortable outdoor and indoor living space and the record collection and player is an added bonus.

Set high on a hill and isolated from the world, this beautiful well-appointed villa ticked all the boxes. It is modern and has spectacular views. The location might not suit all people. Also, while normally you can get gourmet food delivered, this was not so when we were there. Things are still getting back to normal post covid. Life Time Retreats have several villas available and they are all different.

Location, location, location… this place had it! We stayed in the Beach Retreat, about 80m walk from Snellings Beach. The perfect little couples get away. The place was superb. We had 4 nights and spend nearly it all there and only venturing out one day, why would you leave such a tranquil spot. The accommodation was comfortable, relaxed and had full kitchen amenities. Great sun room, outdoor BBQ area and views of the beach. We had everything we wanted and didn’t want to leave. Highly recommend and would love to return one day.

Stayed for two nights at Sky House in February to celebrate a couple of milestone events for my husband. We attended Gastronomo in the Enchanted Fig Tree which was memorable for the food and the theatre of the location. At Sky House the view is certainly spectacular from the bedroom, living room and outside area - you look down to Snelling Beach which entrances. Unfortunately the outside area off the living room was looking a bit tired - broken pavers, peeling red paint on the wind sills,new cushions needed on the sun lounges and the satellite dish was loose on the roof which clanged all through the second night when the wind picked up. The window in the bathroom was stuck open which was ok as the weather was warm on the first night but when the wind picked up we certainly noticed it. Also on the 2nd night I was really annoyed as I was wanting to use the barbecue for cooking our dinner but was horrified to find it was filthy and that the gas bottle had no gas. I made a call to the on site manager who did come and swop it over with his own clean barbecue and gave us a complimentary bottle of wine but at the price we paid this should not have been an issue. When checking out we noticed a pickup truck waiting to come in and my husband had a chat with the driver who said he was there to fix up the house as there were some maintenance issues and it was a good time as no guests for next two nights. That says it all really. On a positive the Moroccan theme works well as the sunrise bounces off the walls, the inside decor is nice, comfortable couches and the bed extremely comfortable. I liked the bathroom amenities and purchased some at the shops in Kingscote. I did send an email to the owner back on 6th March but had no reply. The travel industry needs all the help it can get so I wasn't going to write this review as its not entirely complimentary but as I never heard back I have decided to post now that its May. I think that travel in Australia is not cheap and when places are charging top dollar they need to remember that they need to deliver a better than average experience. I absolutely love Kangaroo Island it is so nice to see regeneration of the flora and we saw a plethora of kangaroos plus quite a number of koalas. Have booked a week at Christmas time but elsewhere on the Island.
