Carlisle House Inn

My wife and I had the good fortune to stay this past weekend at the Carlisle House on Nantucket Island. The rate was very fair and the house is a very short walk from the downtown shops and restaurants. We had rented a car and parking on the street was simple although I don’t know what it is like at the height of the season. Jeneane met us upon arriving and showed us upstairs to our room. The room was very good sized and had everything we needed. The king-size bed was very comfortable as were the pillows! The room was exceptionally clean, light, and well-appointed. Breakfast was offered as part of the part of the stay and consisted of plenty of fresh fruit, fresh bread and pastries, Yogurt, cereal, tea and coffee. One could choose to eat in the sunny porch or out in the garden which has tables and chairs as well. Jeneane was a great hostess and her experience with the island was very helpful for us with dining suggestions etc. We would recommend the Carlisle House wholeheartedly to anyone wanting a great place to stay on Nantucket. We've stayed at many different places on Nantucket over the years and this is definitely one of the best. Lovely place on a quiet street near town. Jeanine made us feel welcome, attentive but not too attentive. There is a fire pit and she had all the s'more trimmings ready to go. We stayed in the Nantucket Suite and enjoyed the multiple rooms and outdoor patio right outside our door. The bathroom might be a little too cozy but not really a problem. We will be going back.

This is a lovely, historic hotel with beautifully appointed rooms, close walk to town, and easy access to restaurants. Breakfast included fresh berries and muffins. The Inn supplied extra beach towels (Frette) and chairs (all new). It was super easy to rent a Jeep with pick up and drop off at the hotel. The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. I would definitely stay at the hotel again! We all loved it.

We have become regulars at the Carlisle house. We usually stay in a large suite with its own private entrance and outdoor seating area -- the only quibble is the bathroom is small (other suites have larger baths). We have also stayed at the Wauwinet hotel for many years which, as a hotel, has more extensive amenities. However, we find the service here much friendlier and personable. The location is perfect; a few short blocks from Main Street so that it is convenient, but quiet. We plan to go back next Summer

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Inn is conveniently located near town and within walking distance to Jetties Beach. The decor is authentically Nantucket. While an antique house, respectful recent updates make all the rooms feel fresh, comfortable and welcoming. Jeneane and team are always a step ahead---beach towels in a beach bag are already in the room upon arrival; beach chairs are available; should it rain, they offer umbrellas. When you return in the afternoon, the home-made chocolate chip cookies are ready for you. If you need a few hours to catch up with work, or finish a gripping novel, there are several charming and comfortable spots indoors and outdoors to perch. We will definitely be back!
