This hotel is in a great location, literally just across the road from the black shingle beach. One word of warning ~ the road in front of the hotel is shut in the evenings so you will most likely have to walk with your suitcases and baggage down the road next to Dorians Bar, which is a bit of a trek but you would do well to remember that you only need to do this twice, once on arrival and again on departure. We booked a ‘superior’ room, which it was NOT. The room was basic but at least above ground, the cheaper option is lower than the ground with very limited views! Our room had two single beds which, we found very comfortable, a dressing table and stall on which the TV was located and a mirror behind the TV (I’m 5ft and could just see the top of my head in the mirror). This had two very small draws and the bedside table had one very small draw and, ……… that was it! There was a hanging bar across a recess with a few hangers on and all the rest of your clothes went on a ledge just three inches up from the floor, so be prepared to live out of your suitcase or pile your clothes up on this ledge. There are no tea/coffee making facilities so we took a travelling kettle and an extension lead with a plug adapter which gave us 4 three pin plugs to use for battery chargers etc. on the plus size there was a full size fridge, safe in the room and air conditioning which they leave on 24/7 all at no extra charge and the maids are in every day making the beds, cleaning and changing the towels, great service. There are sun beds around the 2 beautiful pools BUT, all but 2/3 are concreted in (with a sun bed mattress on) but you can’t move them and they are not user friendly located and yes, you need to get your towels on the beds early in the morning. You can hire towels from reception €1.50 a towel. We had bed and breakfast and we thought it was excellent, they tried very hard to suit all nationalities and we believe they done it well. The staff were lovely and I would like to drop a few names here: Luke ~ night porter, really helpful and welcoming even at 1am. Joanna and Kiki on reception were very helpful and pleasant, always had a smile for you, lovely ladies and another lady that seems to work most positions but mainly in the breakfast room, I didn’t get her name but she was a smashing lady ~ thank you. The shop attached to the hotel sells just about everything, but they are more expensive than the supermarket just up the road. The ‘sea front’ road is a mass of restaurants and they are all good but our favourite was ‘A For Aketeon” and your really must give them a visit, the food, presentation and hospitality is second to none. You WONT BE DISAPPOINTED. The beach ~ yes black sand, it’s more like a very fine grit and we found it very acceptable, only sticks to you when you are wet but just one tap and it falls off BUT you MUST TAKE BEACH SHOES! The entry to sea is bloody lethal, it is solid lava stone which for the first five to six feet
