Casa de Sao Bento St Benedict House

I don't agree with all the wonderful comments here. We had a "luxury apar**ent" for three. The design of the rooms is elegant but not convenient ( bath in the middle of the bedroom, glass partition around the toilet) The extra bed was in fact a convertible sofa in the middle of the living room, which made using the sofa impossible and the room as such as well. There is no lift to take the luggage up, the room for breakfast is small and noisy. The cleaning of the room was not done until 7pm. I gave some laundry to do and I had to wait until 10pm to get it back. And the young lady at reception obviously does not care much and does not know what a smile is . It is not worth the price we paid.

Beautiful place. Lots of unique decor. Shower was good, bed was a little soft for us. My parents' room struggled to stay cool. It is next to a prison, just fyi. It did not bother us. Actually we felt a bit safer because of this, but we were surprised. Parking on the street was easy and free. No elevator so be ready to climb some stairs. Pictures on the website showed suspended beds and rooms. We booked two rooms and did not get one of these rooms, even with the room of 3 people. They just scooted an extra bed in with the main bed. So it was tight quarters. I had thought we would get a separate sleeping area from our daughter. It was fine, but I thought I was getting a 2 different bed areas. Overall, very nice place and would stay again if it were just 2 of us.

We had a pleasant stay in Casa Sao de Bento. The place is well located near a park, in close proximity to the university so one can expect a little noise when students hold special functions. It is a lively area, family friendly. Expect to walk uphill and there is no lift to bedrooms, but the staff was very helpful. We recommend the breakfast offer; it is very reasonably priced and offers plentiful choice.

We checked in at 8:30pm, there is only 2 girls in the reception. It was very difficult to understand their instruction. Finally, We can not enter the hotel batter finishing dinner by their instruction.

The hotel seems to have been renovated recently. Everything is in great shape. The location is amazing. The personal is really nice!

Very nice and comfortable place

I stayed in one of the rooms with terrace and kitchenette. The rooms are well appointed albeit a tad small, but since this is a remodeled old villa, lack of space was already expected as I booked. The beds were confortable and the bathroom was functional, no problems there. Breakfast was buffet, with good variety of breads and biscuits and also a mistery assor**ent of jams that one of the maids could not identify for me. They tasted nice, though. The main complaint was the noise in the rooms. Central ventilation system is located next to the terraces (see attached photo) making it impossible to use them because of the permanent humming. Also, sleeping with an open window, which is my preferred way of sleeping with good weather, for adequate ventilation, was impossible as the noise never stops and every 30 to 60 seconds the main fan turns on an startles me. Soundproofing between rooms and from the room to the hallway was very poor, one can hear other guests talk as if they are standing next to you. Overall nice rooms but a pity that the noise does not give one the desire to return.

We were nicely impressed with Casa de Sao Bento on a recent cycling trip to Coimbra. It has been developed in a very elegant style, keeping the original with a meld of modern. We stayed in a triple which was a superb use of space and lovely big windows. The friendliness of the staff was over-welming and when we completely forgot our bag of 3 helmets, they promptly sent them to us in Spain. Great service and we would not hesitate to recommend Casa De Sao Bento. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Beautiful hotel really close to the historic section. Staff was friendly and polite. A large market was right down the road as well, so everything was really close.
