Upon our arrival we were greeted by the owner Doña Luisa, who had set up a table with cheese, homemade jam, wine, pastries, and nuts as our welcome treat. Once we relaxed and ate, Doña Luisa guided us to our suite, which was spacious, beautifully decorated with antique furniture, and a large bathroom. The views from our room's windows were nothing less than breathtaking. Walking around the property transports you back to a time of splendor and grace. The house has been restored and updated without losing its original essence. Doña Luisa was a warm and caring hostess. Being around her felt more like being around a grandmother who makes you feel warm and cared for, and who wants to spoil you by cooking a delicious breakfast to get you going in the morning. When we first stepped through the main door, Doña Luisa exclaimed that Casa do Fontao was the best guest house in Amarante. We could not agree more. "
