Family Hotel Kooyk

Really nice and clean accomodation, the owner of the hotel and one of her employers were really kind and nice, gave us some tips for things to do in Amsterdam. Also, I have to mention their flexibility im extending one more night. All in all, really nice experience. Thank you once again and hopefully we will see you some other time! :) Josipa&Josipa

As a budget hotel in a very popular tourist area Kooyk Hotel was ok. Comfortable, clean bed, with bathroom for own use, and a friendly welcome on arrival. Remember to take flip flops or similar as our bathroom was a few metres down a corridor. Room was very small, stairs very steep and narrow (both the width of the staircase & the depth of stair tread) so tricky for anyone with limited mobility. Decor just seemed tired and only just about ok. Did not try the breakfast but breakfast room looked nice. Tram at Leidesplein about 5 mins walk (links including central station). Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum a pleasant stroll away (through the park, if you like). Nice bars & restaurants nearby.

Everywhere was clean, no problems there. It was a minimalist room with everything you needed for a comfortable stay. There was an area as part of the hotel to get food and drink at the appropriate times which was simple. Unfortunately due for time we were unable to partake on the breakfast (which was available for a reasonable price added, especially being in Amsterdam which can be quite pricey) but it sounded lovely. Homemade pancakes were an option that nearly tempted me to miss a flight. The hosts were attentive, friendly and very knowledgeable of the area. As well as just being generally a delight to chat to. For a private room/bathroom, options of breakfast, wonderfully friendly owners, basically in the centre of Amsterdam.. it couldn't have been any better. Would definitely come again.

Excellent stay. Lovely location. All clean and tidy. However beds really soft which struggled to sleep as double bed was also two singles pushed together.

My recent stay at Hotel Kooyk in Amsterdam was marred by a shocking and unacceptable experience. I feel compelled to share my dissatisfaction and disappoin**ent in the hope of preventing others from facing a similar ordeal. My two friends and I were looking forward to a pleasant and comfortable stay at this hotel, but our night was anything but restful. Imagine our shock when a mouse invaded our room during the night, actually running on our bed. The initial reaction from the hotel staff was less than reassuring. When we brought up the issue, we received a flippant response along the lines of, "we don't invite them in. I get them at home." This response was far from the professional and empathetic attitude one would expect from a hospitality establishment. The issue only escalated when we inquired whether such an occurrence was acceptable in a hotel, to which the response was, "ah probably not." The complete lack of apology, concern, or compensation was truly disheartening. It's imperative to stress that this incident not only disrupted our night but left us feeling uneasy about the overall hygiene and condition of the hotel. If one mouse managed to infiltrate our room, it's safe to assume there might be a broader issue within the hotel premises. We requested a more suitable solution, but the offered course of action was to mention the issue to the maid, who "might be able to help." This solution was inadequate and far from reassuring, considering the gravity of the problem. I implore Hotel Kooyk to address this issue promptly, with the u**ost seriousness it deserves. I would appreciate a response from the owner or management to explain how they intend to resolve this issue and what measures they will take to ensure it does not happen to other guests in the future. In light of this unfortunate experience, I believe it is only fair for the hotel to compensate us. The room we paid for was clearly not fit for purpose. Mice are classified as vermin, and it is unacceptable to have them running amok in a guest's room. In conclusion, I cannot recommend Hotel Kooyk to anyone, even as a budget option. I strongly urge potential guests to consider paying a little extra to stay at an establishment where hygiene and guest satisfaction are given the priority they deserve.

I had booked a stay in April through ***********. Due to an urgent hospitalization I was unable to appear, but they refused me a refund (according to Italian regulations, in the event of the impossibility of using the service, the refund was due even in the case of a non-refundable rate).

Dirty old hotel. Lumpy pillows. Horrible foam mattress. Thin walls and floors so you hear everything going on in the building all night long. A good location, but that's about it. I dreaded coming back to the room at the end of the day.

A group of friends and I were warmly welcomed by the owners upon arrival, we got in via ferry and arrived 4 hours prior to check in with all our luggage, thankfully we were allowed to store it before check in! After checking in we were greeted by a sizeable room with a balcony, perfect for what we required as a group of lads basking in the local culture. The beds were comfortable and we all enjoyed a great sleep after a busy day! We opted for the Irish breakfast on our first morning which was very dericious and we were ready for our day, the hotel is situated in a great location close to the city centre and plenty of local bars nearby. The value for money is second to none with Kooyk and we will be visiting again after such an excellent experience! I couldn’t recommend this hotel anymore, 10/10!

Noisy, uncomfortable, quite unfriendly. We were shocked when we saw the room, a small cell barely wide enough to contain the small double bed, with peeling paint. The mattress was two pieces of foam which drifted apart immediately. There was no natural light. The noise from other rooms disturbed us so we had no decent sleep here. When the door entry cards failed twice, the staff looked annoyed at having to let us in (during daylight hours) and blamed us! Worse still, early one morning I had to ask two staff members to stop screaming at each other in a heated argument next to our room. One positive, the bathroom was clean and the shower excellent. And the location is great - just a few minutes walk from the central beauties of this lovely city. However this place needs a lot of work and a change of attitude towards its guests.
