Hotel Punta Negra

Who invited and wants the terrible piano-player under our balcony ?? We stay here for rest, not form music. Keep the music in the bar and not outside 😡. The beach is dirty and stinks !! Photos of the private beach at the hotel do not reflect reality.

This hotel is hugely overrated and the pictures are deceiving. The hotel is rated 4 stars but in my opinion, does not meet this standard. The general impression is 'meh', which means that there is nothing special or of character in this hotel. First landing on the terrace overlooking the sea (a moment of great expectations!) and you immediately notice a strong unpleasant smell. Not sure if this was due to algae in the water, but as another reviewer before me has mentioned the same thing, I wonder if this is something else and rather more permanent. The unpleasant lingering smell in the room was the next disheartening moment on our introduction tour. Almost certainly this was due to mould in the unventilated bathroom. Mould was evident all around the shower screen. The beach - another big promise in pictures, is not that privet nor secluded. What the pictures don't show you is the tired outskirts of Fertilia, the neighbouring town and next-door block of flats, immediately adjacent to the hotel's beach. Anyone can visit this beach which is really not a problem as itself, not for me anyway, but please don't advertise false information. Finally, the breakfast was very poor. Seemingly a wide selection, but that's because they spread it over miles of tables and a very large empty, characterless room. The menu is a selection of not too appetising bits and bobs. Exceptions are the vast selection of cakes which are good if you like a few different ones for breakfast. The rest was presented in a rather lazy way, and very very basic. The very understaffed breakfast team was rushed off their feet, disorganised and argued loudly across the room. I compare it to the hotel we stayed in before Punta Negra, also 4 stars, and the difference in quality of service and food is stark. On the positive side - The pools are nice. The gardens are very well maintained. It's hard to put a finger on what it was, the dead atmosphere, the smell, the lack of spark or effort overall but the place was just not that comfortable, clean, or exciting in any way. With the money you pay, you can certainly do much better elsewhere.

The hotel is in a superb location by the sea with walks in the forest and along coastal paths plus cycling nearby. Lovely clean hotel with helpful staff and a good selection of breakfast goodies, especially honey from a honeycomb.

The hotel is beautiful. Private beach, and beautiful grounds. The infinity pool views are breathtaking. The hotel was clean, the staff are very polite and friendly. The only thing that was a negative was that there were no tea or coffee making facilities within the room, you had to buy from the bar. And to get to the main town of Fertilia, there is a 10 minute walk down a path which is fine, but no lighting when It gets dark.

Family-friendly and super nice hotel. Fantastic sea view. Lots of excursion options. Very nice and helpful staff.

This is my second last day,stayed for one week,the hotel is very nice theres two pools adults and infinity for kids no problems getting beds and plenty of towels, there is a small beach within walking distance, the hotel is abit out of the way I'd suggest hiring a car which is very cheap €71 at the airport for a week or getting a taxi for €30 to travel 7km. small town of fetilla within walking distance but not much open this time of year most of the surrounding restaurants are closed too, there's a cracking little pizza restaurant Bonta Sarda about 5 Min drive away very reasonable litre of house wine €9 pizza €12. Eating in the hotel is expensive beer €7, I had the sausage dish which was 4 sausages €14 chips €6. Breakfast nice but yesterday was abit chaotic tables full of dirty plates no food left and coffee machine always seems to be getting refilled, on the plus side they did make us scrambled eggs and bacon. Lovely place to relax but if your staying by the pool otherwise hire a bike or car.

We chose this hotel because of its location overlooking a beach as we wouldn’t have any transport. However, the beach did not look like the beautiful white sandy pictures portrayed when booking. We found a horrible stinking mess which rendered the beach unusable. Although we were told it was seaweed washed up over winter, it should have been removed prior to the arrival of paying guests rather than half hearted attempts of removal during the week we stayed. We were unable to have breakfast on the terrace due to the sewage smell from the beach. Our beach holiday was non existent. Nearby beaches required a car to reach as they were beyond a short walk away. We found the hotel lovely, staff friendly and food was excellent as would be expected at a 4star hotel but felt badly let down by the state of the beach, which left us feeling we had paid a lot of money for a beach which didn’t exist.

Overall we were v happy with our stay at the Punta negra - the hotel has a very relaxed vibe to it - lovely place to chill - scenery is gorgeous - lovely pool and infinity pool - Breakfast was nice - included freshly made omelettes / good choice - we also had lunch in the hotel most days - Service was friendly although reminders were needed from time to time on drinks service ! Small beach attached to hotel is lovely and given how busy the bigger beaches are , you are grateful for the tranquillity - no issue getting a bed if we popped down and great showers for post swim Bedrooms were comfortable and we were grateful for the Air con reception staff helped organise a boat trip which was brill and I would recommend getting a private boat to take you out for snorkelling and seeing a bit of the coastline Small tip - we walked to Fertilla ( 10 mins) to get the public bus - you need a particular mask which you can buy in a pharmacy there for €1 but they wont let you on with the basic cloth ones - We downloaded the dropticket app and tickets were easy to buy at €1 per person each way We should have investigated the app for scooters which would have been easier all round The beach hotel bus goes from outside but is €5 per person per route or €8 per person return which would add up quickly if you are staying for a longer period of time but if there just for a weekend prob easier than public bus Nice music in hotel in the evening when we came back from Alghero ( 15 min bus ride ) for a final glass of vino

We stayed in this hotel from August 14th - August 17th and booked 1 double and 1 single room. The hotel is only 5 minutes on foot from Fertilia town. The staff is super polite and professional. Especially the Reception and Front Office staff. There is direct access to the beach with free sunbeds for the guests. Don't be put off by the mild smell of rotten eggs at the beach, as you may read in some reviews. It's just dying algae and it's actually good for you and therapeutic. The pools are great, especially the Infinity pool. The view is amazing. One thing I didn't like was parents taking their infants into the adults pools. How can you control 1 to 4 year old infants not to pee in the pool, which they most certainly do? We always left the pool and went to the beach when the infants came. The rooms are clean and the chambermaids work really really hard. Breakfast is superb with some options you rarely find in hotels. We also booked the half-board supplement and the dinner was amazing. It's not a buffet, but much much better. You get an A-la-carte menu and you can select 1 of each from Appetizer, First dish, Second dish, Side dish, Dessert. It's like a proper fine dining restaurant. Just a small complaint about the maître d'hôtel. He seems a bit aggressive and abrupt, rushing when writing down the order and missing stuff from the order almost every time. I understand they are busy, but don't show the customer that. Overall it's the best hotel we stayed in Italy and would happily return.
