The Crown Hotel

Greeted with a smile, helpful & polite staff. We booked the budget double, small but cosy. Had heating, TV, lovely comfy bed, small bathroom with shower, toilet & sink. Nice surprise at breakfast with hot English breakfast along with continental meats plus cereals & pastries, also proper coffee. Location great being on the town high street. Old wooden beams on ground floor along with breakfast area giving off 16th century couch house vibes.

Clean room with tea and coffee facilities. The simple breakfast was enough for us and not over facing. Had a curry at the local Indian in the village .

The Crown Hotel has a certain charm. It is not the Ritz but the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable and perfectly adequate for our requirements.

The property is 17th Century, so you cannot expect soundproofed walls like you would have in a modern hotel. Just to be aware that you can hear some noise from adjacent rooms. The decor is all a bit tired, but the bed was comfortable.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Room was spotless and well equipped. Very friendly and helpful staff at breakfast time. The location was perfect for what we wanted being very convenient for Llangollen, Pont Cysyllte aqueduct, Bala and Oswestry.

Positive - the bedroom and bathroom were clean Negative - all the windows in the property are filthy, and really dusty, making the property feel dirty overall. The communal area, by reception, smells stale. It would not take much time or money to improve everything, by just giving it a really good clean.

We were put in a bedroom built into the attic, with very low, sharp edged, sawn timber beams and a toilet with a ceiling so low, I was unable to stand up to urinate, (I am a man)! The beams need some padding on the sharp edges, so that when you get up in the middle of the night, you won't hurt yourself if you bump into them. The room was overlooking the main A5 trunk road and therefore very noisy all day and night. Breakfast was OK, although the booking said continental breakfast and English breakfast but only a Continental was available.

My experience of a visit to this “Hotel” was really poor. We booked earlier in the year as we were attending the Eisteddfod in Llangollen but you can imagine our disappoin**ent when we found that there was no hot food available either in the evening or at breakfast. I really don’t consider that a hotel. Our room was up three flights of stairs and the window was facing onto the A5 road with traffic pounding by throughout the night. As for the room and bathroom, one could hardly swing a cat round. However, everything was perfectly clean. The only saving grace was the lovely receptionist who greeted us when we arrived and offered to carry our luggage upstairs.. In order not to struggle up and down the steep stairs and bang our heads, we found it easier to exit the building from the second floor via the fire escape!

An old world pub. Full of charm and character. We’d upgrade our room next time. Ours was a little small.
