We stayed here as it was close to a venue we were visiting in the evening. We were given a ground floor room which we requested for my disabled husband, which on first inspection looked pretty good, if a little dark and on a very noisy courtyard. It was also a bit of a challenge to get the wheelchair through the courtyard as it is full of tables and chairs. We had a nice welcome and were seated for lunch, even though we were about an hour early. We both had the burger and chips which was delicious and service was prompt and friendly. We popped back to our room to relax, which we couldn't really do as the courtyard has been adapted with areas for use by smokers who were pretty rowdy. We watched a film instead which was fine and then went to get ready for the evening and ventured into the shower room..... It is no understatement to say that the shower room was disgusting, damp, full of black mould with a cracked and peeling ceiling. There appears to have been a significant leak which has just been patched up and not properly resolved so there is constant stream of water flowing over grubby tiles which are just getting more filthy. The floor also looked pretty grim and not something you would want to stand on in bare feet! A scrubbing brush and some bleach taken to the worst areas would have made a massive difference, but not even this had been done. We didn't attempt to change rooms as it is difficult to move my husband around and we were only there for one night, but it was really shocking. The rooms are advertised by Butcombe as follows "With dark oak floors, gorgeous decor, environmentally-friendly British bath and body products, and roll-top baths, our 10 quirky bedrooms combine old-world character with contemporary style. Each of our rooms are perfect whether you’re visiting Frome on business, or looking to indulge in a stylish and romantic country escape". Our room could not have been further from this description if it had tried. We then spotted the mould on the bedroom walls, which you can actually see on the picture from The Butcombe website, which I have attached. The bar area takes on quite a different demeanour in the evening and is full of "lads" drinking pints, queue jumping because they are locals, and swearing. Not really the ambience for a nice cocktail, to start the evening. It took an age to be served two pretty simple cocktails and there was nowhere to accommodate a wheelchair so we sat in the cold dark corridor! On return from our evening out, we were refused a drink at the bar as the very abrupt staff member said that he has called time. It wasn't even 11pm and he didn't bother to check if we were residents. We went to breakfast early the next morning which was delicious and we had great service as we were the first ones there. Sadly nobody was available on check out to discuss any of our issues with.
