Outback Quarters Motel Hay and Restaurant

Good quality Indian food here as the four owners from India, all brothers, are reviving the restaurant after having bought the motel around three years ago. They catered to our various dietary preferences which was appreciated. The accommodation in our ‘deluxe’ cabin although unpretentious was clean, spacious and comfortable with comfy beds, a small kitchenette and ensuite bathroom. Effort has been made to ‘spruce up’ the place and a bit more work is required e.g in the restaurant where new curtains or window fittings are needed and the reception verandah that needs beautification. The family was very friendly and helpful. A joy to meet. Overall, typical small country town accommodation. Can recommend the multicultural experience.

If the most positive thing I can write is that they have good water pressure in the shower there must be something wrong. When I arrived he guy they had on at reception wrote the WiFi password on a scrap piece of paper to me having to ask for enough towels to cover the number of people booked in my group, what an experience. I would have to wonder what the standard units are like as we were in a luxury unit and there was no luxury to be seen.

Booked via *********** and received confirmation. was told by motel that they dont like using it which is impossible to know. motel canceled our booking but also not though same platform so we did not know until.we got there. This was due to us not answering a phone call, there is very patchy reception for a long distance on the highway in both directions to this town. luckily there were other rooms to book. the old rooms and a bit dingy and the rooms better. there was multiple peoples hair on the electric blanket under a protector appearing that under this layer was not changed. Found this pretty icky especially in this covid period. Another guest walking into our locked room using a different room key. we were all very surprised. I felt very nervous for the rest of the night, along with the 24hr very bright lights that the.curtains didn't block very well, it was a very long night.

We were booked in a pet friendly cabin at the Big4 caravan park across the road and something happened to our reservation even though we had paid a month in advance. Travelling with pets is a challenge enough without this happening. The girl who stuffed up our reservation said she would ring around Hay to get us alternate accommodation. She found us the Hay Motel. The man on reception was very nice. He showed us several rooms all of which were old and dirty. The bedspreads were faded and the rooms smelled musty. The bathrooms were disgusting. There were rooms at the back which had been renovated and look lovely and modern and clean. We asked about changing to one of those rooms and were told it would be and extra $70 plus a steam cleaning fee. We changed our mind about staying as we were concerned about the hygiene and they had the hide to charge us a $10 admin fee. Seriously!!!!!!!
