Hotel Restaurant Zur Post

Hotel Zur Post Hotel was an outstanding example of hospitality! When we checked in, the owner's sister, Ursula could not have been kinder. She helped us in multiple ways and then we settled in to coffee and cake in the little front restaurant. The breakfast was delicious and included the best homemade apricot jam and much personal service by the owner, Marguerite. This was a memorable stay in the lovely village of Melk. It had that feel of an owner who really cares about her property and her guests. And Melk was wonderful!

After walking to the monastery we enjoyed cosy and calm place, sitting outside and having lovely coffee, strudel, wine and ice cream. The waiter Peter was sooo funny and amusing. Hope to come there again.

We drove along the Danube on a slow 2 lane road and arrived in Melk early in the afternoon. We were able to park in the free parking lot behind the building and check in early. We had a nice large room with air conditioning and after we rested awhile we walked up the steps to The Stift Melk--The Old Benedictine Abbey of Melk. We had a nice dinner and breakfast in the hotel's restaurant.

We had an excellent stay at Zur Post. The room was comfortable and bigger than anticipated. The breakfast was a real highlight - don’t miss the apricot cake or the homemade apricot jam. We also used the bikes to ride on the south bank of the Danube. The ride was beautiful going on the river and winding through vineyards and orchards. Make sure to stop at a heuriger or two along the way.

I didn’t have a booking, but arrived late morning, drawn by the sunny yellow facade. The reception lady was so very pleasant, and couldn’t help me enough. She awarded me a beautiful room with a view of the abbey! I stayed for a delicious dinner in a garden setting, and enjoyed the extensive and scrumptious breakfast. Kudos to Hotel Zur Post. I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

This was our 3rd visit over the past 10 years, a great place to stay while exploring this scenic section of the Danube. The food is great, and the Ebners and staff are charming. Our rooms were large and comfortable. Our baths were large and well appointed, with a good shower. We enjoyed their 4-course dinner offered with half-board, which included a good salad bar with plenty of choices. That set menu changed daily, offering a choice of 2 mains (meat dish or vegetarian). We enjoyed their Salzl Zweigelt, offered at an affordable price — and their Sekt by the glass — in elegant stemware. We also enjoyed their bar, and their Aperol spritzes. We highly recommend, and hope to return.

We loved our stay. This was our favorite hotel of our 2 week trip in Europe. We had the suite Barock which is huge with a nice, big bathroom. Breakfast was perfect as were the two dinners we had at the hotel restaurant. It was so good the first night we did not even consider looking elsewhere. It's an easy walk from the train station and up to the Stift Melk. We also asked to have laundry done and it was delivered to our room the same night, clean and folded.

We chose this hotel because we were visiting in the middle of the summer and they advertised that they had AC in the rooms. There is a split unit in the room, but it was only on van and not AC. We lowered the temperature on the thermostat and the room never cooled down. We had a thermomator on our phones and it never cooled down. We noticed that all the other rooms had their windows open as well. If I had known that it was only going to be on fan, I would have booked at the other hotel which costs a little less. I mentioned that the AC was not working, and I was told that no one else complained. OK. The room was a nice size and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was typical. The location is absolutely perfect for visiting the abbey and walking along the Danube. However, there are other choices that are just as well located in town. We got great advice from the front desk when we were leaving regarding taking a drive along the Danube rather than taking the motorway. The service at the restaurant that runs the hotel was meh. In general, we would probably have enjoyed it much more if it wasn't so hot, but then again we would have stayed at the other hotel.

A lovely tradional hotelin the centre of the small town of Melk. Everyone was very welcoming. The room, a suite, was very large and well fitted with modern characterful furnishings. The bathroom too was very generous. The restaurant was beautiful for dinner glad we stayed in and tried it! Breakfast too was genrous. A lovely stay wish we could have stayed longer.
