Hillcrest House

I am a returning guest to Hillcrest House for an annual event nearby. The event staff recommend Hillcrest House and I was not disappointed. On latest visit Nic was fantastic and as always friendly and welcoming. Room was spacious and had an outstanding view. Breakfast was great both mornings and despite me forgetting to order Nic was superwoman. I went down to breakfast room and thought continental today but no Nic had carried forward my order from the prior day. It’s small things done really well (with consideration) which is the reason I’ll continue to be a returning guest. It’s the people in small owner managed premises that make the difference and Andy and Nic are both great. Bladnoch Distillery a must visit in the area!

Had a wonderful stay at Hillcrest House earlier this month. Wonderful service from Nic who was ever so welcoming. Three course meal available Monday to Thursday, which we were lucky enough to be able to have on our day of arrival on the Thursday, which was outstanding. Great breakfasts each morning. Room was lovely with everything we needed. Would 100% be back!

This was a stop overnight for us and was so very welcoming. Everything was spotlessly clean, the bed comfy, nice to have dressing gowns and the place warm on a cold night. Nic and Andy were very welcoming. We most certainly would visit again, hopefully for longer as it seemed a lovely area.

The hospitality is outstanding, the room was spacious, the views beautiful and the owners are very attentive and helpful We have stayed here previously and were pleased to return. We took advantage of the evening meal option and dishes were varied and delicious.

Hillcrest is beautiful place just a short walk from the town centre, in a quiet residential street. Rooms are large, airy and comfortable, the welcome is very warm and breakfast was fantastic. There's plenty of free parking available as well as on-street parking, which is also free.

We stayed in the R. Burns room, on the ground floor, very large and comfortable with a simply operated walk-in shower with grab rails and seat. There is a very pleasant view from the room. The hosts are extremely pleasant and obliging and the breakfast is excellent.

We spent 3 nights at Hillcrest House and could not have been looked after better by Nic andf Andy. The rooms were large and spotless. The views of the countryside felt like looking at a picture. The home cooked food was excellent. There is free parking on site and it is less than 5 minutes walk from the cetre of Wigtown and the 14 bookshops that make it Scotland's booktown. If we have the chance to return we will certainly try to book-in at Hillcrest again.

We loved our stay so much we extended it by another night! Spotlessly clean, comfortable accommodation with friendly owners who did everything possible to make your stay perfect. We had booked dinner for two nights which was delicious and very good value. Also worth mentioning is the extensive drinks menu to be enjoyed with dinner or as a night cap. Thank you Nic and Andy we will be back.

We visited this Hotel for two nights with friends who had stayed before and highly recommended it. We arrived to a very warm welcome from the owners Andy and Nic. After being shown to our room Spark after Muriel Spark all rooms are named after Authors - very appropriate for Wigtown. We had booked dinner for both nights and so pleased we had as the food was delicious. Andy uses all local produce and makes the meals from scratch. Both nights we had delicious starters, main and desserts very plentiful and at a reasonable cost. Really good wine list too. Breakfast is chosen the previous night and is cooked fresh with cereal, yogurts and an extensive array of preserves. Our friends had their dog with them and the hotel is happy to accommodate dogs in the rooms. Spark is one of the rooms not used for dogs. Our room was spacious and with a very comfortable large bed and quiet we slept really well. Bathroom is modern and plenty of towels and toiletries. We look forward to our next visit and thanks Andy and Nic for making our visit so special
