"I had always wanted to stay here when I lived in the UK but I had an excuse to visit on my recent trip from Australia and it was the highlight. 3 of us stayed in 2 rooms. The best welcome to any hotel ever with 2 staff joining to welcome us. We were taken to our rooms and shown everything that mattered. Adam struggled with our luggage without a murmur. We had afternoon tea in the beautiful lounge ( although we thought it was included lol). The decor was in keeping with the ambiance of the house. We had pre booked dinner so started off with drinks and amuse bouche in the lounge. Then for a magical dinner. It was my daughter’s special birthday and they had produced a personalised menu for her to take away. But the food was incredible and the service from the Maitre’d, Sommelier and staff was faultless. Good choice of courses. Difficult to choose which dessert to have but one of us had cheese which was served from a trolley by an expert. We had liqueurs in the bar served by a knowledgeable bartender. Breakfast was equally great. Choice from a menu and the big breakfast included black pudding. Pastries were from their bakery and were superb. Our rooms were very comfortable and I had the biggest bathroom ever. Comfortable bed and very relaxing environment. We strolled down to Rutland Water after breakfast and then checked out - again with an appreciative staff. I am running out of superlatives. So how about ‘fantastic’ to finish?"

"We’ve been coming here for the last four years and, unfortunately, this was by far our most disappointing visit. The complex is now under new management, and it really feels like standards have slipped. The golf course was in terrible condition and looked very overplayed. The greens had just been treated, so it does look like they are trying to improve things, but overall the course was nowhere near the standard we’ve experienced in previous years. The rooms were nice as usual, and the food was okay, as was breakfast. They’ve also clearly tried to make the bar into a nicer space, but the experience was let down by the lack of drinks available. Out of six beers advertised, only one was actually available — and that was a 3.5% lager, which then ran out as well. For a golf complex, that really isn’t good enough. The venue is now also cashless, which is another change that I wasn’t impressed with. It’s a real shame because we’ve had some fantastic weekends here over the years, but unfortunately we won’t be returning. Hopefully the new management can turn things around, because the place has a lot of potential."
