Château de Roquelune

Fantastic place, really quite, very nice castle converted into a hotel

Excellent overall with an enthusiastic host who has obviously spent time and effort to achieving it current high standard. But the tranquil setting was disturbed during the night at times with a lot of dog barking from nearby. Apart from this a very enjoyable stay

The first thing to do is to ignore the flowery prose written about this place on booking sites, TripAdvisor, and its own website. It creates the impression of a Babbington House lite, when nothing could be farther from the truth. What you have here is a simple bed breakfast located in a country house. Other than breakfast, there are no food services, bar, spa activities or, indeed, a usable pool ( you have to ask for the pool because it is always being cleaned by a machine during the day!). Oh, by the way, don’t expect any housekeeping, there isn’t any: “you want clean towels everyday!”, came the horrified comment from the house manager. It’s more like an AirBnb, but at 240 euros per night! And they tried to charge extra for breakfast, despite being presented with a confirmed booking with breakfast inclusive. Ah breakfast! No napkins “ because the couple on the next table took them”, no butter because “I put out one butter for each of you and someone took two” - it’s a classic! This place is surrounded by high walls with solid metal gates protected by electronic key pads, lights and cameras. It feels like a fortress! It is in the middle of nowhere: at least 3 km to the nearest village. It has about a hectare of grounds, with some lovely trees, but the general area needs some attention, like maybe cutting the grass? No comfortable seating outside. The room was fine: large but with peculiar washing and plumbing arrangements retrospectively added to an old house; hated the noisy sliding door to the bathroom and the shower installed in a cupboard, on which I banged my head every time! Air conditioning was excellent. For 2 nights out of our 3, we were the only ones staying. When the house manager left, we were on our own, in a strange house with no emergency exits marked, and no emergency information except her telephone number. If there had been a fire, I wouldn’t bet that we could have escaped. But (spooky) after we had gone to bed we heard footsteps, which we assumed was the owner checking the house, but who knows? We checked our room lock! It was interesting that when we asked if we could check in an hour early because a local music festival meant that Pézenas, the local town, was effectively closed to traffic, the owner said “non”! In an empty hotel!!! We didn’t even want the room until 1600, just parking. Not an ounce of human kindness. So, there you have it. A country house with 2 guests in a tourist area in France at the end of June and the booking sites show availability through the summer. It doesn’t know what it wants to be: corporate entertainment; special events; boutique hotel; or chambres d’hote. It cannot survive for long in this format. If I had been in their situation, I would have simply offered us a 100 euros each to cancel the booking and shut the place for week! It is an unhappy place: the Operations staff and the Owners are not in harmony, and you feel that with every interaction. It may be worth keeping an eye on this

Nous avons passé un excellent séjour au château de Roquelune ! L’accueil était agréable, le lieu est magnifique et les repas très gourmands. Nous reviendrons avec plaisir pour profiter d’un moment calme et reposant au bord de la piscine..

Ce château est une pépite ! Isolé du tumulte de la ville mais à seulement 2 km du centre de pezenas nous avons trouvé notre bonheur. Dans un parc magnifique avec un coucher de soleil sur le bassin , on c’est régalé. La Deco faite avec goût a rendu notre séjour très agréable sans parler de la literie qui est digne d’un 5 étoiles. Merci à l’équipe présente qui a su être discrète et efficace , très bon petit déjeuner ! Je reviendrai pour dormir dans les éco-lodges quand la meto le permettra

El hotel está bién, su habitación estupenda. No se llega al hotel en coche, te lo hacen dejar en una explanada y te recogen con un carrito de golf y te llevan al hotel, ( el personal SI aparca y llega a la puerta del hotel con su coche, es muy raro, no se entiende ya que no es nada cómodo. Resultó que había una fiesta en el propio hotel con la música a tope, súper fuerte, no pudimos dormir, a las 02;00 h seguían y seguían sin dejarnos dormir por lo alto del sonido de la música!!!. Muy mal permitir celebrar eventos/fiestas en un chateau que vende paz y tranquilidad. Vas a hoteles aislados por su tranquilidad y no te dejan descansar. IMPOSIBLE REPETIR, nada recomendable. Att.

Väldigt fin omgivning, älskade slottet och poolen. Hade önskat bättre information om hur och var man skulle köra in, kod för inpassering hade man kunnat få när man bokat rummet. Mycket bra service från ägaren Benoit men frukosten var så där och vi fick betala extra vid frukosten för äggröra, vilken i och för sig var väldigt god. Man bör ha tillgång till bil för att ta sig till Pezenas för att till exempel äta middag.

Nous étions de passage sur Pezenas et avons réservé une nuit au château de Roquelune. Une fois la voiture garé sur le parking, Veronique de l’accueil vient nous chercher en voiturette en nous précisant que nous ne pouvons pas aller en voiture au plus près du château. Son accueil est aimable et professionnel. Elle nous prévient au passage que passés 19h, nous serons un peu « les maîtres des lieux » car étant soumis à la réglementation des chambres d’hôtes, le propriétaire du château n’a pas l’obligation de laisser du personnel en poste pendant la nuit. Elle nous précise aussi que toutes les chambres du château seront occupées ce soir. Notre chambre, l’Espiguette, est spacieuse et bien agencée. Elle s’avérera rapidement un désastre au niveau isolation phonique. Nous regagnons notre chambre après le dîner. A 22h30, nous sommes interpellés par du raffut qui provient de l’extérieur. Bruit de moteur : une voiture se gare sous notre fenêtre malgré l’interdiction. Un couple d’américains en sort et parle très fort, si bien dehors qu’à l’intérieur du château. Le calme revient au bout de 30 minutes. Nous nous endormons. 0h15 : énormes bruits dans les couloirs du château, des américains en nombre qui parlent très fort et rient bruyamment. Vers 0h30, nous tapons au mur, les bruits s’arrêtent quelques instants pour reprendre de plus belle. Nos « voisins » se parlent désormais de chambre à chambre, portes ouvertes. C’en est trop : mon mari enfile un pantalon et sort pour faire cesser tout cela. S’en suivent des éclats de voix. Tout s’arrête vers 1h30. Il est alors bien difficile de se rendormir tant la tension est forte. Nous en faisons part le lendemain matin à Veronique en lui disant que la nuit était épouvantable et que nous voulons porter réclamation. Elle nous transmet les coordonnées du propriétaire. Nous échangeons longuement avec lui en lui relatant notre épouvantable nuit et lui demandant ce qu’il compte faire. Il consent à tout ce que nous disons ayant eu confirmation de la part des américains. Il nous confirme que notre chambre est particulièrement mal isolée phoniquement (alors ne la louez pas !!!) et promet de nous revenir sous peu. Nous attendons à l’évidence purement et simplement le remboursement des … 209€ (!) tant la promesse n’était pas au rdv. Cinq jours après, toujours pas de nouvelles. Nous relançons Veronique qui ne répond tout simplement plus. Pas classe. Encore moins de la part du propriétaire.
