Hotel Riu Garoe

Hello, this was a beautiful hotel. It is very clean and well designed. People are friendly and attentive to details. The pool area is lovely. Food is excellent; I would have preferred natural orange juice, although they have other natural juices. They had some vegetarian and gluten-free options. There is a library, a few games and the nightly entertainment was nice. The prices at the bar and buffet were very acceptable. We had a beautiful view of the ocean. Overall, this was a lovely stay!

Can only recommend this excellent hotel. Nice room, nice facilities and nice surroundings. The quality of the food in the restaurant was surprisingly good. All staff were amazing: Professionel, serviceminded, friendly incl child friendly and smiling😊 Only some few wishes for improvement: Better quality of food in bar menu and shampoo + conditioner in the bathroom.

We had a really wonderful stay here with our three children. Beautiful hotel and sorroundings, delicious food catering to different tastes, super friendly, helpful staff. Everything works seamlessly and smoothly and we felt really well looked after. Hope we can come back soon!

The Riu Garoe is an excellent, genuine 4 star hotel. The food is high quality and varied. The rooms are spotlessly clean and of a high standard after a 2019 refurb. Amenities are plentiful (great pool, gym, tennis courts, chess/table tennis etc). The staff are attentive and the grounds immaculately kept. The hotel is located in the quiet/leafy suburb of La Paz sitting above Puerto de la Cruz. The Garoe has a more adult/couple-based clientele than we have experienced elsewhere and so perhaps not a good choice if you have kids wanting to play with large floats in the pool (these are not permitted) and/or you are looking for a more lively pool scene. It is not the sort of place for loud music by the pool or busy animation teams. The continental mix of guests also means there is no awful sunbed-snatching at the crack of dawn. We had a ground floor room (113) next to the cleaners’ access stairs and this generated noise from circa 6.30am each morning, waking us a bit earlier than normal most days. Admittedly we didn’t raise this as we had adjacent rooms for us and the kids with a pleasant view onto the pool, hence I didn’t feel a move would be easily accommodated (we overheard other comments around the pool from guests who had asked to move rooms and met resistance due to hotel occupancy). I would concur with the comments of others about higher floor rooms being better in terms of noise. Another thing to be aware of - not the hotel’s issue in any way - is the unpredictable weather in this part of Tenerife. We knew the north was more changeable than the south but hadn’t expected quite the level of cloud cover we’ve experienced in peak summer - over seven consecutive days as I write this on our final day. The weather was great for the first 4/5 days but suddenly turned and has been overcast ever since. Not ideal given the level of cost involved to get here! All in all, a very nice break but a couple of things to be aware of.

The Riu Garoe is a lovely hotel with excellent facilities and wonderful staff. It was impressive from the moment we arrived. Having left home at 2,30am to get to the airport at 4.30 we were tired and hungry by the time we arrived at the hotel 12 hours later. We were shown to our room which was lovely but had a large tree directly in front of our balcony which obstructed the view. We asked to move if possible and they offered an alternative option which we took. Arrived in the poolside cafe 10 minutes before closing but they assured a full menu was available including the specials. All the waiting and bar staff were excellent - polite, efficient and friendly. All public areas were immaculate, lovely pool, excellent spa. The rooms are spacious and cleaned to a high standard each day. The food in the buffet offered wide choice and was always fresh with a variety of options cooked while you waited. The only slight downside of the holiday was the cloud cover which lasted for 5 days. The temperature was around 23/25c so very comfortable but little sun.

Staff great and helpful. Food great and varied choice. Room great and extremely clean. Plenty of clean sunbeds. Pool really clean and the lifeguard is extremely helpful. What more can I say? Fantastic and I'd definitely recommend staying there.

My husband and I have just returned from a weeks holiday at this hotel. We arrived after midnight and check in was swift. The hotel itself is beautiful, everywhere is very clean and the rooms are attractive and comfortable. Lovely shower, comfy beds. The mirrors are not near the dressing table so very awkward for ladies to get ready in the evening. Initially we had room 113, next to the housekeeping store room which is extremely noisy from 5:45 am. Not much sleep the first night. We asked if we could move rooms and reception staff were helpful and moved us to a quieter room. Housekeeping was excellent, sheets and towels changed on request. The hallways are tiled so all footfall can be heard from early on. The food was nice to begin with but it was very samey. The roast meat was the only thing that changed but we had pork 3 times in 1 week. Breakfast was the same, seemed nice at first but no change during the whole week. We had lunch and dinner out a few times, there are some lovely bars and restaurants locally in La Paz or further down the hill into town. You sat at the same table every night for dinner. On our 5 th night we came down and someone else was sat at our table. So they moved US, bit annoying. Stick to your own rules. Drinks prices at the bar were reasonable but the actual price varied depending on who served you which seemed odd. Most of the staff we encountered at the hotel were polite and friendly. Being English in this hotel you are massively in the minority. This would prevent us from ever returning to this hotel. The clientele were silent around the pool and liked it that way. We had little interaction from any other guests and we found them to be quite rude. Would walk into you at dinner, frown at you around the pool, did not respond to smiles or hellos. Overall a very uncomfortable experience. The hotel itself is lovely but unfortunately our experience was not.

Everything excellent about this hotel it is quiet with good gardens and swimming pool. The room is very nice and clean with large shower The food is fantastic never had better The staff are very helpful This was the first time I have stayed at this hotel and will stay again

Everything about the hotel is great except one annoying thing... The day before your departure, the staff remove the bathrobes from your room, using the rideculous excuse that they have to be washed for the next guest. RIU,a billion dollar business, can't afford spare bathrobes, so all guests are looked at as thieves. Management should rethink this.
