This property has very little to recommend it compared with other options on the island. I have been coming to stay on Catalina at least once a year every year for close to 20 years. I’ve stayed at most hotels on the island and am a repeat visitor to hotels I like. I won’t be coming back here.
The room itself is very small and not suited to more than one guest. The best thing about this hotel is the porch on the second floor.
The biggest issue I had was with the customer service. We stayed on New Year’s Eve with a check out New Year’s Day. We had an amazing time at the ****** ballroom gala and were a little the worse for wear in the morning and checked out 30 minutes late. I’ve checked out late in hotels before and never had an issue. In my experience there’s usually a little leeway as long as you aren’t abusively late. Only 30 minutes over after the biggest late night holiday of the year does not deserve the punitive $30 late charge they informed us was due when we checked out but had not been informed of prior. The excuse that, “the staff need to clean the rooms” is pathetic. This hotel does not have that many rooms and at only 30 minutes over, they weren’t waiting for us or the other people they charged late fees to. If they were that fast we could have checked in earlier than we did. Management clearly puts “nickel and dime-ing” their customers above customer service.
As a hotel, it’s fine. After this trea**ent, I won’t return or recommending to any of my friends.
